What is a neuropsychological and psychological evaluation?
An evaluation provides a patient with information regarding their current level of cognitive and/or psychological functioning, recommendations that will help them succeed at work or school, and information that will help inform them about treatment options. The evaluation may be referred by different people, such as a patient’s primary care physician, family member, or insurance company. The evaluation typically includes the following components:
- A clinical interview with the patient and/or parent(s)/caregiver
- A review of the patient’s psychological, educational, and/or medical records
- Standardized administration of various tests that assess the patient’s cognitive (e.g., attention, learning, memory, etc.) and psychological functioning
